FG Orders Universities to Expel Students Convicted of Kidnapping, Strengthen Security Partnership With DSS The Federal Government has directed tertiary institutions across the country to dismiss any student found guilty of kidnapping and other serious criminal activities, as part of measures to strengthen security within academic environments. The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, issued the directive while urging universities and other higher institutions to improve collaboration with the Department of State Services DSS and other security agencies. The government said the move is aimed at preventing criminal networks from operating within campuses and ensuring that institutions remain safe environments for learning. The directive comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in parts of the country, including incidents involving the abduction of students and other members of educational communities. The Federal Government has previously emphasised stronger coordination between schools and security agencies in responding to threats against learners. Dr. Alausa stressed that institutions must take decisive action against students whose involvement in criminal activities has been established through due process. The minister also encouraged university administrators to maintain closer communication with intelligence and security organisations to identify and address potential threats before they escalate. Security experts have continued to call for stronger protection measures in schools, arguing that improved intelligence sharing, community involvement and rapid response systems are essential to tackling insecurity affecting education in Nigeria. The Federal Government said the new measures are part of broader efforts to protect students, staff and educational facilities while promoting a secure academic environment nationwide.
