EFCC Recovers N1.233 Trillion, Secures 10,872 Convictions in 34 Months The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC has recovered assets and cash valued at about N1.233 trillion and secured 10,872 convictions within 34 months, as the anti-graft agency intensifies its fight against financial crimes in Nigeria. The figures were disclosed by the EFCC Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, during a media briefing in Abuja on the commission’s performance between October 2023 and July 2026. According to the commission, the recoveries included cash and assets recovered in multiple currencies, while more than two-thirds of the recovered funds and assets have been returned to individuals, corporate organisations and other beneficiaries. The EFCC said it received 49,673 petitions during the period, investigated 39,615 cases and took 14,476 cases to court, resulting in the 10,872 convictions. Olukoyede also disclosed that the commission had dismissed more than 40 personnel for corruption and financial malpractice. Some of the dismissed officers are facing prosecution, while further disciplinary and legal actions are being pursued against others. The EFCC chairman said the disciplinary measures were part of efforts to ensure that officers responsible for investigating and prosecuting financial crimes maintain the integrity expected of the agency. The commission’s performance report also highlighted its efforts to combat cybercrime, advance-fee fraud, procurement fraud, bank fraud and other forms of economic and financial crimes. Olukoyede said the results demonstrate the commission’s focus on strengthening investigations, prosecutions and asset recovery while ensuring that recovered proceeds are put to productive use.
