Cross River Health Agency Takes Breastfeeding Awareness Campaign To Churches

The Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency has intensified efforts to promote exclusive breastfeeding by taking its 2026 World Breastfeeding Week awareness campaign to churches across Calabar. Health workers used the outreach to educate mothers and expectant women on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a child’s life, emphasizing its role in improving infant nutrition, strengthening immunity, and supporting healthy growth and development. The agency said the church-based sensitization programme is designed to reach more families through faith-based communities, encouraging mothers to adopt recommended breastfeeding practices while dispelling common myths and misconceptions. Officials also urged families, community leaders, and religious organizations to support breastfeeding mothers by creating an enabling environment that promotes maternal and child health. The campaign forms part of activities marking World Breastfeeding Week 2026, an annual global initiative aimed at raising awareness of the health, nutritional, and developmental benefits of breastfeeding for both infants and mothers.
