Criminality Has No Ethnicity, Terrorism Has No Religion IGP Disu

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has cautioned Nigerians against ethnic and religious profiling in the fight against insecurity, stressing that “criminality has no ethnicity and terrorism has no religion. Disu made the remarks while delivering the opening address at the North-West Security Summit in Gusau, Zamfara State, on Wednesday. The IGP urged security agencies, governments and communities to focus on identifying and dismantling criminal networks rather than associating criminality with particular ethnic or religious groups. He specifically called for the identification, isolation and prosecution of criminal networks, their sponsors, arms suppliers, informants and facilitators, regardless of their backgrounds or affiliations. The three-day summit, hosted by the Zamfara State Government, brought together governors, traditional rulers, security chiefs, security experts, development partners, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to discuss the region’s worsening security challenges. Issues on the agenda included banditry, kidnapping, arms proliferation, communal conflicts, farmer-herder tensions and other threats affecting communities across the North-West. Disu said no single security agency, government or institution could tackle insecurity in the North-West alone. He therefore called for stronger intelligence sharing, closer cooperation among states, coordinated security operations, improved border security and effective early-warning systems. He also emphasised the importance of traditional rulers and local communities in providing credible intelligence and supporting crime-prevention efforts. The IGP reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, technology-driven operations, rapid response, inter-agency collaboration and community partnerships. He challenged participants at the summit to produce practical and measurable resolutions that would strengthen security, protect vulnerable communities and restore public confidence across the region.
