BUA unveils $85m Port Harcourt port expansion to support food business growth BUA Group has announced an $85 million expansion project at its BUA Ports and Terminals facility in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, aimed at boosting the company’s capacity to handle increased imports of raw materials for its expanding food business. The expansion is expected to support the handling of more than two million tonnes of raw materials annually, as BUA continues to increase production capacity across its food-related operations. According to the company, the investment will improve port infrastructure, enhance cargo handling efficiency and strengthen supply chain operations by providing greater capacity for the movement of essential commodities. BUA said the project forms part of its broader strategy to support Nigeria’s industrial growth, reduce supply chain challenges and ensure a more reliable flow of materials needed for food production. The company’s food business has undergone significant expansion in recent years, with increased investments in manufacturing facilities and processing capacity. The upgraded port facility is expected to play a key role in supporting these operations by improving access to imported inputs.

BUA Group Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, said the investment reflects the company’s commitment to developing critical infrastructure that supports economic growth and contributes to Nigeria’s industrialisation efforts. The expansion is also expected to create economic opportunities through improved logistics operations, increased trade activities and potential job creation within the maritime and manufacturing sectors. Industry stakeholders have continued to emphasise the importance of modern port infrastructure in reducing delays, lowering logistics costs and improving Nigeria’s competitiveness in regional and global trade. The Port Harcourt facility upgrade adds to BUA’s growing investments across manufacturing, infrastructure and logistics as the company seeks to expand its footprint in Nigeria’s industrial sector.
