Barcelona Continue €1.5bn Camp Nou Redevelopment As Capacity Set To Reach 105,000
Barcelona continue €1.5bn Camp Nou redevelopment as capacity set to reach 105,000 Spanish football giants FC Barcelona will continue major construction work at the iconic Camp Nou as part of a massive redevelopment project expected to transform the stadium into one of the largest and most modern in world football. The project is part of the club’s long-term Espai Barça redevelopment plan, which includes building a third tier of seating and installing a new roof over the stadium. Once completed, the stadium’s capacity will increase to around 105,000 spectators, making it the largest football stadium in Europe. Barcelona recently received permission from the city council to expand the currently available seating capacity to about 62,652 fans by reopening the north stand and activating additional VIP areas.
The approval marks another step in the gradual reopening of the stadium, which had been operating with a reduced capacity of around 45,000 supporters since the team returned after more than two years of construction work.
Club officials say the expanded capacity will be used during upcoming home matches, including a league fixture against Sevilla FC.
The redevelopment of Camp Nou is one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in European football. The work includes:
- Construction of a third tier of seating
- Installation of a full stadium roof
- Modern VIP areas and hospitality spaces
- Improved fan facilities and commercial areas
The renovation is estimated to cost about €1.5 billion ($1.75 billion) and will be completed in phases while the team continues to play matches at the stadium. According to the club, the entire project is scheduled to be fully completed in the summer of 2027, when the stadium will finally operate at its full 105,000-seat capacity. When finished, the renovated Camp Nou will remain the largest stadium in Spain and Europe, strengthening Barcelona’s position as one of the most commercially powerful clubs in world football.
