Alausa tasks NANS to mobilise 10 million student votes for Tinubu in 2027 The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, has urged the National Association of Nigerian Students NANS to mobilise 10 million student votes for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election. Alausa made the call on Thursday in Abuja during a meeting with NANS leaders and other representatives of student organisations. The minister linked the appeal to the Federal Government’s interventions in the education sector, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund NELFUND, technical and vocational education, student accommodation and other initiatives aimed at improving students’ welfare. He said the government’s investment in education was intended to create better opportunities for young Nigerians and ensure that students directly benefit from ongoing reforms. Alausa highlighted NELFUND as one of the administration’s major interventions, saying the scheme had provided financial support to millions of students. He also cited investments in student accommodation, technical and vocational education and training (TVET), campus infrastructure, transportation and power supply in tertiary institutions. The minister further pointed to the Student Venture Capital Grant, which he said was designed to help students transform innovative ideas into viable businesses and become employers of labour. He urged student leaders to support the administration’s efforts and mobilise their members ahead of the 2027 presidential election. However, NANS leaders also raised concerns over issues affecting Nigerian students, including federal scholarships, illegal admissions and accreditation challenges in some institutions. The student body called for stronger government action to prevent students from being admitted into programmes that lack the necessary accreditation. Alausa assured the students that the ministry was working to address the concerns raised and would continue engaging student leaders on issues affecting tertiary education. The meeting comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 election, with Nigerian students emerging as an important constituency in efforts to secure youth support.
