Accord Party Applauds Court of Appeal Verdict Nullifying Deregistration Order The Accord Party has welcomed the judgment of the Court of Appeal which overturned a Federal High Court ruling that directed the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to deregister the party and four other political parties.

The party described the appellate court’s decision as a victory for democracy, constitutional rights, and political inclusion. It said the ruling reaffirmed the importance of allowing Nigerians to freely participate in political activities through legally recognised platforms.

In a statement reacting to the judgment, Accord Party leaders expressed appreciation to the judiciary for upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights of political parties. They argued that deregistering parties through legal processes that limit political competition could weaken democratic participation and reduce voter choices. The Court of Appeal’s decision restored the legal status of the affected parties, allowing them to continue their operations and participate in future electoral activities, including preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections. The ruling has generated reactions among opposition parties and political stakeholders, many of whom described it as a significant step toward strengthening Nigeria’s multiparty democracy and ensuring that smaller political parties have a role in the country’s electoral process.
