A powerful winter storm, classified as a nor’easter and “bomb cyclone,” is battering the U.S. Northeast with heavy snow, dangerous winds, and blizzard conditions on 23 February 2026. Blizzard warnings are affecting tens of millions of people, and the storm has brought widespread travel disruption, school and office closures, and significant power outages.
Snowfall of 1 2 feet (30 – 60 cm) is expected in many areas.

According to meteorological sources, the storm has placed over 50 million people under blizzard or winter-storm warnings across the region. Citywide travel ban was ordered by Mayor Zohran Mamdani from Sunday 9 p.m. through Monday noon all non essential vehicles, motorcycles, bikes, etc., are barred from roads.
Subways are modified; many public transport services reduced or suspended. NJ Transit, Long Island Rail Road, and some commuter rail services are suspended or operating on reduced schedules.
Flight cancellations: Thousands of flights across the Northeast have been canceled or delayed at major airports including JFK, LaGuardia, Newark, and Boston Logan. Public schools in New York City and Boston closed or moved to virtual learning.
City offices either closed or on remote schedules; non-essential staff sent home. Widespread power outages reported in parts of the region.
