CUPP Backs Reps Minority Caucus, Demands Tinubu Either Fix Nigeria’s Challenges or Resign The Conference of United Political Parties CUPP has thrown its support behind the House of Representatives Minority Caucus over its recent call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to either demonstrate effective leadership in addressing Nigeria’s worsening challenges or resign from office.

The opposition coalition said the position of the lawmakers reflects growing public frustration over insecurity, economic hardship, and declining living standards across the country. In a statement issued in Abuja, CUPP’s Acting National Chairman, Chief Peter Ameh, said the coalition fully aligns with the Minority Caucus, insisting that the current administration must urgently rise to its constitutional responsibilities or allow a leadership change. According to him, governance is a responsibility that must translate into measurable improvements in citizens’ welfare, adding that any leader unable to deliver effective results should step aside. “In a sane clime, any elected official who refuses to produce results of good governance that will help make the lives of the people better should honourably resign,” Ameh stated. CUPP expressed concern over what it described as worsening insecurity across several parts of the country, alongside rising inflation, unemployment, and general economic hardship. The coalition argued that Nigerians are currently facing severe social and economic pressures that require urgent and decisive government intervention. It urged President Tinubu and his administration to take immediate steps to restore public confidence by prioritising security reforms and economic recovery policies.

The group maintained that leadership is a public trust that must be actively demonstrated through results, stressing that failure to address the country’s challenges undermines democratic accountability. CUPP further warned that continued neglect of insecurity and economic distress could deepen public discontent and erode trust in government institutions. It reaffirmed its commitment to promoting accountability, good governance, and democratic principles, adding that it would continue to speak out on issues affecting Nigerians. The House of Representatives Minority Caucus had earlier called on President Tinubu to either suspend political distractions, focus on a national security and economic recovery plan, or resign if unable to deliver effective governance. The lawmakers cited worsening insecurity incidents and economic challenges as evidence of what they described as a governance failure requiring urgent correction. CUPP’s endorsement of the position adds to growing political debate over the government’s handling of national security and the economy. The development highlights increasing opposition pressure on the Tinubu administration as Nigeria grapples with security crises in several regions and rising cost-of-living concerns.
