INEC Distributes Sensitive, Non-Sensitive Materials Across Ekiti’s 16 LGAs Ahead of Governorship Election The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC on Thursday commenced the distribution of sensitive and non-sensitive election materials to all 16 local government areas of Ekiti State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, assuring voters and stakeholders of its readiness to conduct a credible, transparent and peaceful poll. The exercise, which took place under the supervision of electoral officials, security agencies, political party representatives and election observers, saw electoral officers receiving materials designated for their respective council areas for onward deployment to registration areas and polling units across the state. INEC officials said the early distribution was aimed at ensuring timely delivery of election materials and preventing logistical challenges that could disrupt the voting process. Speaking during the distribution exercise, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ekiti State assured residents that all necessary arrangements had been concluded to guarantee a smooth election. He explained that the commission had put in place mechanisms to ensure that election materials reached polling units on schedule. According to the commission, ballot papers and result sheets were customized and secured to prevent electoral malpractice and enhance the integrity of the electoral process. Ballot papers were also coded for specific local government areas as part of measures to safeguard the election. The commission reiterated its commitment to conducting a free, fair and credible governorship election, adding that election officials had been adequately trained and deployed for the exercise. Security agencies were also mobilized to provide protection for electoral personnel, materials and voters throughout the election period. More than one million registered voters were expected to participate in the election to choose a successor to the outgoing governor. INEC had earlier announced that over one million voters were registered for the poll, while a substantial percentage had collected their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of election day. Political parties participating in the election intensified their campaigns in the final hours before the poll, expressing confidence in their chances of victory. Election observers and civil society groups, meanwhile, urged voters to conduct themselves peacefully and resist attempts at vote-buying or other forms of electoral malpractice. Stakeholders who monitored the distribution exercise commended INEC for carrying out the process in an open and transparent manner, noting that the presence of party agents, security personnel and observers helped to build confidence in the commission’s preparations. The Ekiti governorship election was widely regarded as an important political contest and a test of Nigeria’s electoral reforms, including the deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System BVAS and other technological innovations designed to improve the credibility of elections.Voting was scheduled to begin across the state on Saturday, with INEC urging eligible voters to come out early, comply with electoral guidelines and exercise their civic responsibility peacefully.

Ekiti State had over one million registered voters eligible to participate in the governorship election. The poll was conducted to elect a new governor following the completion of the tenure of the incumbent administration. Election preparations included the deployment of thousands of ad hoc staff, security personnel and election technologies intended to strengthen transparency and public confidence in the process.
