Ogun Police Dismiss Banditry Claims, Confirm Soldier Killed in Magbon Etido Dredging Site Attack The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed reports linking a violent incident at a private dredging site in Magbon Etido, Mowe, to banditry, confirming instead that the attack was an isolated criminal operation in which a soldier was killed and another injured. Authorities, however, stressed that investigations so far indicate no connection to organized banditry activity in the state. According to the Police Service of Nigeria through its Ogun State Command, the incident occurred at a private dredging site where military personnel were on security duty when unidentified attackers struck. The Command confirmed that one soldier died from injuries sustained during the attack, while another soldier was wounded and is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital. Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said operatives, in collaboration with the military, immediately deployed to the scene and have begun coordinated operations aimed at tracking down those responsible. He described the incident as “an isolated criminal attack,” adding that preliminary findings do not support claims that it was carried out by bandits or part of wider insecurity in the state. Security operatives have since reinforced presence in the area, with patrols and surveillance intensified to prevent further incidents and reassure residents. The police also urged members of the public to disregard rumours linking the attack to banditry, warning that such misinformation could cause unnecessary panic and undermine ongoing investigations. Residents of Mowe and surrounding communities were advised to remain calm as security agencies continue efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and restore full normalcy in the area. Authorities reiterated that the situation is under control and assured that updates will be provided as investigations progress.
