Accountant Arrested at Lagos Airport Over Alleged N150 Million Burglary Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force NPF, in collaboration with the International Criminal Police Organisation INTERPOL, have arrested a 50-year-old accountant, Olusola Ajayi Joshua, over his alleged involvement in a burglary and theft case involving property worth more than ₦150 million in Lagos. The suspect was apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport nearly one year after he allegedly fled the country. According to police authorities, the case originated from a petition dated July 11, 2025, submitted to the Office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police at the Zone 2 Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos. The petition was filed by a female complainant who reported a burglary at her residence on Sesayon Street in Ikeja Government Reserved Area GRA. The complainant alleged that unknown persons broke into the property and carted away household items, valuables, and other assets estimated to be worth over ₦150 million. She subsequently identified Joshua, a long-time accountant at her late father’s company, and six other individuals as persons of interest in the investigation. According to her statement, Joshua had worked for the family business for more than 17 years and was entrusted with a spare key to the residence in 2022. The arrangement reportedly allowed him access to the property during the rainy season to assist with maintenance issues, particularly the evacuation of water caused by roof leakages. The complainant told investigators that she discovered the burglary when she visited the residence in July 2025 and found several valuable items missing. This prompted a police investigation by detectives attached to the Zonal Servicom Team, formerly known as the Zonal Strike Force Team. Police investigations initially led to the arrest of six suspects who allegedly had access to the property. The suspects were later charged to court after investigators concluded their inquiries. However, further investigations reportedly revealed that Joshua had left Nigeria for Canada in July 2025 shortly after the alleged burglary and was subsequently declared wanted by the police. Speaking while parading the suspect, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Olohundare Jimoh, said several attempts to secure Joshua’s return to answer questions regarding the allegations were unsuccessful. As a result, the police sought the assistance of INTERPOL and initiated procedures to flag the suspect’s international travel documents. Authorities disclosed that INTERPOL became involved in the investigation on July 16, 2025, leading to the placement of an alert on Joshua’s passport. The effort paid off when he arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, on June 1, 2026, where he was intercepted by INTERPOL operatives at approximately 9:30 p.m. and taken into custody. Following his arrest, Joshua was transferred to the Zone 2 Police Headquarters on June 2, 2026, where he is expected to face further investigation and possible prosecution. Police officials have not yet disclosed whether additional charges will be filed or if more suspects may be linked to the case. The incident highlights the growing role of international law-enforcement cooperation in tracking and apprehending suspects who attempt to evade justice by leaving the country. Security experts say collaboration between the NPF and INTERPOL has become increasingly important in addressing transnational crime and ensuring that suspects wanted in Nigeria can be located abroad.
