The jets were identified as U.S. Air Force F-15 fighter aircraft engaged in active operations when they were accidentally engaged by Kuwaiti air defence units.
Incident Occurred amid Regional Combat Operations
The downing of the aircraft unfolded against a backdrop of intense regional hostilities, including Iranian drone, missile and aircraft attacks that have targeted U.S. and allied positions. CENTCOM said the error occurred during an extended period of heightened military activity involving multiple air and missile engagements.Video footage verified by international news agencies from the area showed one of the jets descending before its crew deployed parachutes over the Al Jahra region of Kuwait. Kuwaiti authorities confirmed they had launched search and-rescue operations once the incident was reported.
Officials in Kuwait acknowledged the mistake and said they are cooperating with U.S. forces to investigate the circumstances that led to the friendly-fire shoot downs.
