One Dies, Three Injured as Cement-Laden Truck Crashes in Ogun

One person has died while three others sustained varying degrees of injuries after a cement-laden truck suffered brake failure and crashed along Ajebo Road in Ogun State. The lone accident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at Agbedejobi Village, around Mile 6, Ajebo Road, in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state. The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Abeokuta. According to Akinbiyi, the accident involved an unregistered truck conveying cement. The driver reportedly lost control while attempting to avoid a vehicle ahead after the truck’s braking system failed. The truck subsequently veered off the road into a ditch before ending up on a railway track. The impact caused the vehicle to spill its entire load of cement into a nearby bush. Akinbiyi said one of the truck’s motor boys died in the crash, while the three other occupants sustained injuries of varying degrees. The deceased’s remains were deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta, while the injured victims were taken to the same facility for medical treatment. Officials of TRACE and the Nigeria Police Force participated in the rescue operation. Following the incident, TRACE expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery. The agency also urged motorists, particularly operators of heavy-duty vehicles, to ensure their vehicles were properly maintained before embarking on journeys. It warned that mechanical failures and inadequate vehicle maintenance remained significant causes of preventable road crashes. The agency reiterated the need for strict adherence to road safety regulations to reduce accidents and protect lives.
