2027 PDP, APGA, Accord Join Tinubu’s Re-election Campaign Yilwatda
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has claimed that major opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Accord Party, have joined the campaign to secure President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. Yilwatda made the claim while speaking with State House correspondents after meeting with President Tinubu alongside the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, to discuss preparations for the ruling party’s nationwide campaign. According to him, the development reflects growing political support for the President ahead of the 2027 general elections. He said the APC had attracted support from parties that had previously defeated it in elections, adding that the emerging political alignment would strengthen Tinubu’s chances of securing a second term. “If you look at what the party is doing now, the oppositions are with us. All political parties that have defeated us in any election are all with us; PDP is with us, APGA is with us, Accord Party with us,” Yilwatda said. He added that the development demonstrated what he described as growing political support for the President across the country. However, Yilwatda did not clarify whether the claimed support represented formal endorsements by the national leaderships of the opposition parties or cooperation involving individual politicians and groups within them. The APC chairman also announced that preparations had been completed for the formal launch of the party’s nationwide presidential campaign in Kaduna on Saturday, October 24, 2026. He said the party’s leadership, campaign committees and state structures were ready to commence mobilisation activities across the country. Yilwatda explained that his meeting with Tinubu was intended to brief the President on the level of preparedness and arrangements for the campaign launch. He expressed confidence in the readiness of party members and campaign officials to begin the nationwide exercise. Speaking separately, Yari said the APC Presidential Campaign Council would focus on the achievements of the Tinubu administration rather than engage in personal attacks against opposition candidates. The former Zamfara State governor said the campaign would present the administration’s policies, programmes and accomplishments to Nigerians as the basis for seeking another mandate. He maintained that the ruling party intended to conduct a responsible campaign without insults or name-calling. According to Yari, the campaign would encourage Nigerians to assess the government’s performance before deciding whether to support its continuation in office. He said the APC would rely on its record in government to convince voters to give Tinubu a second term. The claimed support from politicians affiliated with opposition parties comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections. The APC has been expanding its presidential campaign structure to accommodate influential political figures who are not necessarily members of the ruling party but are willing to support Tinubu’s re-election bid. The development has also generated debate over the implications of cross-party alliances for opposition unity and the competitiveness of the forthcoming elections. While the APC leadership views the arrangement as an opportunity to broaden support for the President, the extent of the claimed backing from the PDP, APGA and Accord Party remains a key distinction, as support from individual politicians does not necessarily amount to an official endorsement by their respective parties. The 2027 presidential election is expected to be a major political contest, with parties and aspirants intensifying consultations and mobilisation ahead of the polls.
