Preliminary reports suggest billions of naira’s worth of goods were lost, with multiple shops, stalls and merchandise wiped out in the blaze.

On his directive, Vice-President Shettima will lead the delegation set to depart Abuja on Monday to sympathise with affected traders and residents of Kano State. The FG team will convey the President’s condolences, pledge financial assistance on behalf of the federal government, and extend support to the Kano State Government in reopening and rebuilding the market.

President Tinubu has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the recurring market fires at Singer Market, calling for actionable insights to prevent future incidents. Authorities are expected to probe causes ranging from infrastructure failures and storage hazards to safety systems in Nigeria’s major commercial hubs.
The aim is to strengthen emergency response capacities, improve firefighting resources and enforce safety standards to safeguard livelihoods and commerce across Nigeria’s markets.
Traders and market authorities have highlighted poor layout, congestion, faulty wiring and storage of flammable materials as factors contributing to repeated fires at the market. These issues have raised broader safety concerns for major trading centres nationwide. The losses are expected to impact food distribution channels and livelihoods beyond Kano, as Singer Market plays a central role in commodity supply across northern and central Nigeria. In the wake of a devastating fire at Kano’s Singer Market, the Federal Government under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda has moved swiftly to provide comfort, support and strategic assistance to affected traders and communities. With Vice-President Shettima leading a high-level delegation, the government is pledging financial relief, coordinating with state authorities to reopen the market, and launching a probe into recurring fires all part of efforts to protect Nigerian businesses and sustain economic resilience.
