US military authorities have previously imposed rules governing the conduct of service members during overseas port visits, particularly in locations where prostitution and other activities may present legal, disciplinary or security concerns. Thailand officially prohibits prostitution under its laws, although the sex industry remains highly visible and operates openly in parts of the country, including Pattaya.
