Obafemi Martins Claims Ronaldo, Henry And Mbappé Were Slower Than Him
Obafemi Martins Claims Ronaldo, Henry and Mbappé Were Slower Than Him Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins has renewed his claim that he was faster than some of football’s biggest stars during his prime, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappé and Thierry Henry. Martins made the claim during an appearance on the Obi One Podcast, hosted by former Nigeria international and teammate John Obi Mikel. When asked whether players such as Henry, Mbappé and Brazilian legend Ronaldo could match his pace, Martins confidently insisted that his explosive acceleration was unmatched. The former Inter Milan and Newcastle United forward said he was faster than Cristiano Ronaldo, Mbappé and Henry during the peak of his career. Mikel, who played alongside Martins for the Super Eagles, appeared to support his former teammate’s assessment, describing Martins as exceptionally quick over the first 10 to 15 metres. Martins’ speed became one of his most recognisable qualities during his playing career. His remarkable pace was also famously reflected in football video games, where he was given maximum ratings for acceleration and top speed. The Nigerian forward enjoyed a successful career with clubs including Inter Milan, Newcastle United, Birmingham City and Seattle Sounders. He also scored 18 goals in 48 appearances for the Super Eagles. Martins’ latest comments have once again sparked debate among football fans over who should be considered the fastest player of his generation.
