Osimhen Backed to Lead Arsenal to Premier League Title
Former Chelsea and England midfielder Joe Cole has backed Arsenal to retain the Premier League title if the Gunners succeed in signing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen this summer. Cole believes Arsenal’s chances of defending their crown could hinge on whether manager Mikel Arteta adds another top-class No. 9 to his squad. He currently predicts Manchester City to win the league, but says he would change his prediction in Arsenal’s favour if Osimhen arrives. Cole added that if Arsenal sign Osimhen, he would “flip” his prediction and back the Gunners to finish ahead of City. Arsenal enter the 2026/27 campaign as defending Premier League champions after ending their 22-year wait for the title last season. The Gunners are looking to strengthen an already competitive squad as they attempt to retain the championship. Osimhen has emerged as a major target for Arsenal as they consider adding more firepower to their attack. The Nigerian enjoyed another prolific campaign with Galatasaray, scoring 22 goals and providing six assists in all competitions last season, according to reports. Former Premier League striker Carlton Cole also backed the potential move, arguing that Arsenal already have an excellent squad and would be “flying” if they brought in Osimhen. However, completing the transfer could prove difficult. Osimhen remains under contract with Galatasaray, who have reportedly been reluctant to part with their star striker despite interest from Arsenal. The debate comes as Arsenal prepare for another title battle with Manchester City, who begin the new campaign under manager Enzo Maresca following Pep Guardiola’s departure. For Cole, the equation is straightforward: Arsenal have the squad to challenge for another title, but adding a proven goalscorer such as Osimhen could give them the extra attacking edge required to stay ahead of their rivals.
