Nigerian Footballer Vows to Divorce ‘Liar’ Wife Over Bitter Fight With Daughter Former England and Wimbledon striker John Fashanu has announced plans to divorce his wife, Vivian, accusing her of misleading him and contributing to a bitter rift between him and his daughter, Amal. Fashanu, 63, made the disclosure in a video shared on social media, where he also apologised publicly to Amal for previously making statements about her that he now says were based on misinformation from his wife. The former footballer said he had been influenced by what Vivian told him and regretted allowing the situation to create division between him and his daughter.

He said his previous video addressing the family dispute was wrong and that he now intended to take legal action against Vivian, whom he referred to as his “soon-to-be ex-wife. Fashanu also expressed remorse to Amal, describing her as his first daughter and praising her for remaining composed throughout the dispute. “I allowed myself to be misinformed and influenced,” Fashanu said, adding that Vivian had created “unnecessary division” between him and his daughter.

The latest development marks a dramatic reversal from Fashanu’s position in May, when he publicly rejected claims made by Amal about his health and personal affairs. At the time, Fashanu denied reports that he was suffering from a health condition linked to repeatedly heading footballs during his playing career. He also rejected claims that Amal was managing his affairs and accused her of making false and damaging statements. He insisted then that Vivian was his third wife and that he remained deeply in love with her. However, in his latest statement, Fashanu said he now regretted the role he played in the disagreement with Amal and suggested that the relationship between father and daughter was being rebuilt. He said he was proud of Amal’s maturity and emphasised that “life is too short for division,” expressing hope that love would overcome the misunderstanding. Fashanu, who enjoyed a successful spell at Wimbledon and later became a well-known television personality through Gladiators, spent much of his post-football career in television and business.
