Makinde Appoints Dr Lasisi Taiwo Abideen as Substantive Rector of Ibadan Polytechnic Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved the appointment of Dr Lasisi Taiwo Abideen as the substantive Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan. The appointment was announced alongside the selection of other principal officers for the institution, including Dr Olajide Taiwo Sherifat as Registrar, Mr Adegbola Abiodun Kolawole as Bursar, and Mr Osunrinade Olukunle Akinbola as Librarian. According to the Oyo State Government, the appointments followed due process, with vacancies advertised in national newspapers before qualified candidates were screened and interviewed by the Governing Council of the institution, chaired by Professor Lanre Nassar. The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, said the newly appointed officers are expected to provide effective leadership and contribute to academic excellence, institutional stability and the continued development of the polytechnic. The appointments, which took effect from July 31, 2026, are for a single tenure of five years.
The development brings an end to the prolonged period in which the institution’s key administrative positions were occupied in acting capacities. Dr Lasisi Taiwo Abideen had previously served as Acting Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan before his confirmation as substantive Rector. The Oyo State Government congratulated the new principal officers and charged them to justify the confidence placed in them by working towards the growth and advancement of the institution.
