The incident, which occurred during ongoing construction work, triggered an emergency response after authorities received a distress call at about 2:23 p.m., amid fears that workers might have been trapped beneath the debris. However, a search and rescue operation by emergency responders confirmed that all the workers at the site escaped safely, with no casualties recorded. The National Emergency Management Agency NEMA, through its Sokoto Operations Office, led the rescue efforts alongside personnel from the Federal Fire Service, Sokoto State Fire Service, Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency SEMA, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, the Nigeria Police Force, and other relevant agencies. The spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmad Rufai, confirmed that the collapse did not result in any death or injury among the workers. The owner of the project, Alhaji Auwal Abubakar, described the incident as unfortunate but expressed gratitude that the workers survived the collapse. Authorities have commenced investigations to determine the cause of the structural failure and establish whether any construction standards or safety procedures were breached. The incident adds to growing concerns over building safety and regulatory compliance in Nigeria’s construction sector, where authorities have repeatedly called for stricter monitoring of construction projects to prevent avoidable disasters.
