Reps Order IGP to Produce Alleged PFIPC DG Over Forgery Probe

The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigating the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council PFIPC has directed the Inspector-General of Police IGP, Olatunji Disu, to produce the council’s self-acclaimed Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, before lawmakers as investigations into the controversial agency continue. The committee, chaired by Rep. Yusuf Gagdi, issued the directive during a resumed investigative hearing at the National Assembly after disclosing that it had uncovered 29 documents suspected to have been forged in connection with the operations of the PFIPC. Representing the IGP, Assistant Commissioner of Police Bashir Abdullahi told the committee that police had already arrested and arraigned Adeyemi before the Federal High Court on an eight-count charge following investigations prompted by a petition from the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President. He cautioned lawmakers against seeking disclosures that could prejudice the ongoing criminal proceedings but assured the committee of the police’s cooperation. According to the police, investigations began after the Office of the Chief of Staff alleged that Adeyemi falsely presented himself as the Director-General of both the Presidential Economic Advisory Council and the PFIPC. The police witness also confirmed that signatures on some disputed documents did not match authentic official records. Gagdi said the committee’s findings pointed to a broader pattern of alleged forgery involving documents purportedly issued by the State House, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the Federal Ministry of Finance and other government institutions. He noted that representatives of several affected agencies had appeared before the committee and disowned the documents attributed to them.

The committee ordered the IGP to produce Adeyemi before it by noon on Wednesday, saying his appearance was necessary to clarify issues surrounding the disputed documents without interfering with the ongoing police investigation or court proceedings. The House panel is investigating the legal status, funding and operations of the PFIPC, which the Federal Government has maintained was never lawfully established, amid allegations that the purported agency secured office space in the Federal Secretariat and received a ₦1.32 billion allocation in the 2026 Appropriation Act.
