Timi Frank has called on the Nigerian Presidency to publish the full text of the reported letter allegedly sent by President Trump to President Tinubu, arguing that Nigerians should be allowed to examine the document and determine its significance. Frank said the communication, even if authentic, should not be interpreted as an endorsement of Tinubu’s leadership, economic policies or administration. He argued that the reported message only acknowledged cooperation between Nigeria and the United States on security issues and did not amount to political support. The former APC spokesman questioned the authenticity and presentation of the document, saying a genuine presidential communication should carry official markers such as the White House seal and the U.S. president’s signature. He urged the government to make the document public to address questions surrounding it. Frank also criticised what he described as the government’s attempt to portray the letter as a major diplomatic achievement, arguing that routine exchanges between countries cooperating on security matters should not be presented as international political endorsement. He further compared the reported letter with previous high-level engagements between Nigerian and U.S. leaders, saying direct meetings and official visits carry greater diplomatic significance than correspondence alone. The controversy follows claims by the Nigerian government that Trump’s reported communication recognised Tinubu’s efforts in tackling insecurity and other national challenges.
