The congestion occurred around the Kara Bridge axis of the expressway, where emergency responders temporarily restricted movement to remove a crashed vehicle from the road. The operation resulted in a significant traffic backlog, with queues extending towards the New Garage area. Traffic officials explained that the temporary restriction was necessary to allow the safe evacuation of the damaged vehicle and prevent further accidents while recovery activities were ongoing. Commuters heading towards Ogun State were the most affected, with many road users spending extended periods in traffic. However, motorists travelling into Lagos from the Mowe-Ibafo corridor experienced relatively smoother movement, as traffic flow remained largely unaffected in that direction. Authorities appealed to drivers to remain patient, obey traffic control measures and cooperate with personnel deployed to manage the situation. They assured motorists that normal movement would resume after the completion of the recovery exercise. The development comes as traffic authorities continue to warn motorists to exercise caution on major highways, especially during emergency recovery operations, to reduce the risk of further incidents. In a related development, officials confirmed that a containerised truck that had earlier fallen around the Cater Bridge axis had been removed, allowing traffic movement to return to normal in that section of the expressway.
