Experts warned that the situation threatens progress toward achieving global food security targets and could have wider consequences for health, education and economic development, particularly among children and vulnerable communities.

The report called for increased investment in sustainable agriculture, stronger food systems, social protection programmes and measures to improve resilience against climate change and economic disruptions. Humanitarian organisations have also urged governments and international partners to intensify efforts to address the root causes of hunger, including insecurity and limited access to resources needed for food production. The UN said coordinated action will be essential to reverse the trend and ensure that more people across Africa have reliable access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food.
