Kwara Orders Immediate Demolition of Unsafe Two-Storey Building in Ilorin The Kwara State Government has ordered the immediate demolition of a two-storey building in the Oke-Suna area of Ilorin East Local Government Area after declaring it structurally unsafe and a serious threat to lives and property. The directive was issued through the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency KWEPA, which also sealed the premises following repeated complaints from residents who feared the building was at risk of imminent collapse.

According to a statement by KWEPA’s Press Secretary, Aliyu Amode, the agency carried out an emergency inspection after receiving distress reports from members of the community. During the visit, residents told officials they had repeatedly warned the property’s owner about the deteriorating condition of the structure, but no corrective action was taken. KWEPA General Manager, Jide Aina, described the building as a grave danger to public safety and directed the owner to commence its immediate demolition. He warned that if the owner fails to comply, the state government will carry out the demolition to safeguard lives and property.

The agency reiterated the government’s commitment to preventing avoidable disasters through strict enforcement of environmental and building safety regulations. It also urged residents to continue reporting distressed buildings, abandoned structures and other environmental hazards for prompt intervention.
