Several prominent figures from Sir Keir Starmer’s administration have left government, including former Chancellor Rachel Reeves, former Foreign Secretary David Lammy and former Business Secretary Peter Kyle, as Burnham reshaped the top team to reflect his own priorities.
Burnham said his government would focus on easing the cost-of-living crisis, ending rough sleeping, reindustrialising Britain and devolving more power away from Westminster. His first major policy announcement was the abolition of VAT on household electricity bills from 1 October, aimed at reducing energy costs for households.
