FG Strengthens Digital Identity Integration in Agriculture

The Federal Government has intensified efforts to integrate digital identity systems into Nigeria’s agricultural sector as part of measures to improve farmers’ access to services, increase transparency and strengthen agricultural development. The initiative is aimed at creating a more reliable system for identifying farmers, improving access to government programmes and ensuring that agricultural interventions reach the intended beneficiaries. Through digital identity integration, farmers are expected to benefit from improved access to financing, extension services, inputs, insurance schemes and other support programmes designed to boost productivity.

Government officials said the move will help address challenges associated with inaccurate farmer records, duplication of beneficiaries and difficulties in tracking agricultural support initiatives. The digital approach is also expected to provide better data for planning, policy development and investment decisions, allowing authorities to understand farmers’ needs and design more effective programmes. Stakeholders in the agricultural sector have welcomed the initiative, noting that accurate farmer identification is essential for building a modern agricultural system and improving inclusion, especially for smallholder farmers. The Federal Government said the integration aligns with broader efforts to promote digital transformation, enhance food security and create a more efficient agricultural value chain. By combining technology with agricultural development strategies, the government aims to empower farmers, improve productivity and support sustainable growth in Nigeria’s agriculture sector.
