Zulum Mourns Death of Retired DIG Abdullahi Shettima at 93

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has expressed deep sadness over the death of retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Abdullahi Shettima, who passed away at the age of 93. The governor described the late senior police officer as an outstanding patriot, elder statesman, and one of Borno State’s most distinguished sons, whose long years of service to Nigeria left a lasting legacy of discipline, integrity, and dedication.According to a condolence statement issued on behalf of the governor, Zulum noted that the late DIG belonged to a generation of public servants who helped shape the professionalism of the Nigeria Police Force during its formative years. He highlighted Shettima’s decades of service in the force, describing him as one of the last surviving senior officers from the pre-independence era who contributed significantly to national security and public order. Zulum also praised the late officer’s role as a mentor and respected figure whose wisdom benefited younger officers and public servants across different levels of government. The governor said the death of Abdullahi Shettima represents a major loss not only to his immediate family but also to Borno State and Nigeria as a whole, noting that his passing marks the end of an era in public service. He described him as a “towering figure” whose contributions to nation-building would continue to inspire future generations. Zulum prayed for Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the late police chief and grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus, while also asking for strength and comfort for his family and loved ones during the period of mourning.
