Ogun Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit rescues abducted victim, kills two kidnappers in gun battle The Ogun State Police Command’s Anti Kidnapping Unit has recorded a major breakthrough after successfully rescuing an abducted victim unharmed and neutralising two suspected kidnappers during a coordinated operation in the state. The operation, which followed sustained intelligence-led tracking, also led to the recovery of arms, ammunition, and cash suspected to be proceeds of crime. According to the police, the victim had been abducted on June 11, 2026, in Ogbe Village, Ogun State. Following the report, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit immediately launched a tactical response operation aimed at securing the victim’s release. Through coordinated intelligence gathering and surveillance, operatives tracked members of the criminal gang to their hideout within the state. Police authorities confirmed that pressure mounted by the security team led to the victim’s eventual release on June 18, 2026, without injury. The operation escalated into a gun duel when operatives stormed the suspects’ hideout. On sighting the police, the kidnappers reportedly opened fire in an attempt to escape arrest. Security operatives responded with superior firepower, leading to the neutralisation of two members of the gang, while others fled with gunshot wounds. A search of the scene led to the recovery of a single-barrel gun, an expended cartridge, a mobile phone, and ₦2.2 million in cash, which authorities believe are linked to ransom proceeds from criminal activities.

The police also confirmed that efforts are ongoing to track down fleeing members of the gang. The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State commended the operatives for their professionalism, courage, and tactical efficiency during the operation.He reiterated the command’s commitment to sustaining the fight against kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes across the state.
