2027 Coalition of 1,500+ Groups Led by COCSON Plans 20 Million Signatures to Back Tinubu’s Re-election A broad-based national coalition comprising over 1,500 civil society organisations, professional bodies, labour groups, artisan associations, and grassroots networks has announced plans to mobilise 20 million signatures in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections. The coalition, led by the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria (COCSON), said the initiative is aimed at demonstrating massive grassroots backing for President Tinubu across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones and socio-economic groups. According to the organisers, the endorsement drive will culminate in a major convention scheduled for May 17, 2026, where representatives of participating groups are expected to formally declare their support for the president. The coalition stated that the mobilisation effort spans more than 1,500 groups, including human rights organisations, medical and legal professionals, trade unions, artisan associations, youth bodies, and community-based organisations. COCSON’s National Secretary, Tabuko Kennedy, said the planned convention would be the “largest endorsement gathering in Nigeria’s history,” adding that preparations are already underway across multiple states. He explained that the signature campaign is designed not only as a symbolic show of support but also as a structured national effort reflecting widespread acceptance of the president’s policies. Kennedy added that mobilisation teams are currently engaging communities nationwide, using both physical outreach and digital platforms to achieve the 20 million signature target. He further stated that the coalition’s structure ensures participation from all regions, with coordination extending down to grassroots levels, including trade groups and local associations. According to the coalition, the initiative reflects what it describes as growing national consensus around President Tinubu’s leadership and reform agenda. The development comes amid increasing political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, with various groups and coalitions aligning either in support of or opposition to President Tinubu. The 2027 elections are expected to be highly competitive, with emerging alliances and opposition realignments already shaping the political landscape Political analysts say the scale of the coalition and its planned 20 million signature drive could play a significant role in shaping early narratives ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly in terms of grassroots mobilisation and political legitimacy
