APM Demands Accountability Over ₦20 Trillion Subsidy Proceeds Under Tinubu Administration
The Allied Peoples Movement APM has called on the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration to provide an account of the estimated ₦20 trillion proceeds said to have been generated from subsidy-related reforms. The party said its demand was driven by concerns over what it described as worsening economic hardship, rising poverty levels, high cost of living, declining public infrastructure and a growing infrastructure deficit across the country. According to APM, Nigerians deserve greater transparency on how funds saved or generated from subsidy reforms have been utilised, especially amid ongoing economic challenges affecting households and businesses. The party argued that despite government efforts and policy reforms, many citizens continue to face difficulties due to rising prices, reduced purchasing power and pressure on basic services. APM urged the Federal Government to provide detailed information on the management of the funds and explain how the resources have contributed to improving the lives of Nigerians. The call comes amid continued public debate over the impact of fuel subsidy removal and other economic policies introduced by the Tinubu administration. The government has maintained that subsidy reforms were necessary to redirect resources toward infrastructure, social investment programmes and long-term economic growth. However, opposition parties and critics have continued to demand more accountability, transparency and visible benefits from the reforms. APM said publishing a clear account of the subsidy proceeds would help build public confidence and demonstrate commitment to responsible governance.
