VP Kashim Shettima Highlights President Tinubu’s Drive to Reform Nigeria’s Power Sector Vice President Kashim Shettima has underscored the Federal Government’s determination, under President Bola Tinubu, to reform and strengthen Nigeria’s power sector, a key pillar of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Speaking in Abuja on Thursday at the commissioning of the new head office of the Nigerian Electricity Liability Management Company (NELMCO) in the Asokoro District, the Vice President reiterated that the Tinubu administration is committed to addressing the longstanding challenges in the nation’s energy landscape. Shettima described the reforms as central to national progress, noting that energy security is foundational to economic growth and development. He commended NELMCO’s board and staff for their dedication and said the upgraded headquarters would inject “a new lease of life” into the institution’s operations. “This administration remains resolute in its commitment to reform and strengthen the power sector,” he said, adding that revitalising the electricity industry is vital for improving investor confidence and creating a commercially viable environment that supports private and global participation. Shettima emphasised that the government is focused on data‑driven decision‑making, the intelligent use of technology in asset management, and stronger partnerships with both local and international stakeholders to drive forward power sector reforms. He also called on private sector investors and the international community to deepen investment in the power sector, assuring that Nigeria is “open for business” and committed to creating a transparent, predictable, and investor‑friendly regulatory environment.
The Vice President’s remarks come as part of broader efforts by the Tinubu administration to strengthen institutions and attract investment across key sectors of the economy, with the power sector positioned as a strategic driver of industrialisation and improved living standards across Nigeria.
