Video Watch Ibrahim Gusau’s Final Moments as NFF President
A video has captured the final moments of Ibrahim Musa Gusau as President of the Nigeria Football Federation NFF before he stepped down from the position after nearly four years in charge. Gusau announced his resignation on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at a press conference at the NFF headquarters in Abuja, bringing his tenure to an unexpected end. The NFF president said his decision followed consultations with his family, friends and football stakeholders. He also advised members of the NFF Executive Committee who were willing to do so to resign alongside him. His resignation came amid intense criticism of Nigerian football following a series of disappointing results involving the country’s national teams. The Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while the Super Falcons also missed out on the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup after losing to South Africa in an intercontinental playoff. The Falcons’ failure ended Nigeria’s record of appearing at every Women’s World Cup since the tournament began in 1991. Gusau, who was elected NFF president in September 2022, leaves office less than a month before the federation’s scheduled elective congress on September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State. His departure has opened a new chapter for Nigerian football, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu subsequently ordering a comprehensive reform of the country’s football administration
