Police confirmed that all seven victims sustained serious but nonlife-threatening injuries. They were taken to Royal Derby Hospital and Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham for treatment. Authorities have now confirmed that two of those injured have been discharged, while others continue to receive care.
A man in his 30s was arrested shortly after the incident on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving, and causing grievous bodily harm. He remains in police custody as investigations continue. Police said counter-terrorism officers are assisting with the investigation, although the incident is not currently being treated as terrorism. Officers added they are keeping an open mind regarding the motive. Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes, with several people left injured on the road and emergency crews rushing to provide aid.
Chief Superintendent Emma Aldred said the incident had “sent shockwaves through our communities,” but reassured the public that there is no ongoing risk. She also thanked members of the public who helped emergency responders and provided information leading to the suspect’s quick arrest.
Police investigations are ongoing, and authorities have urged anyone with CCTV, dashcam, or mobile footage of the incident to come forward.
