Plateau Government Says State Will Not Bow to Terror, Imposes 48‑Hour Curfew After Jos Killings Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has pledged that the state will not succumb to fear or intimidation following a deadly attack in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North Local Government Area, and announced decisive security measures including the mobilisation of security agencies and the imposition of a 48‑hour curfew to restore calm.

Delivering a statewide broadcast on Tuesday, Governor Mutfwang described the late‑Sunday night attack as “senseless,” noting that the victims were law‑abiding citizens caught off guard by the violence The governor assured residents that security agencies had been mobilised to prevent further bloodshed and to carry out thorough operations across Jos North. He also confirmed that a 48‑hour curfew had been imposed in the local government area to enable security forces to conduct their duties effectively and help restore order. The curfew, which took effect shortly after the attack, is aimed at preventing escalation of violence and allowing operatives to secure the area and pursue those responsible. Mutfwang said he personally visited the scene of the attack with security chiefs to assess the situation and gain critical insights into strengthening preventive measures against future occurrences. At Jos University Teaching Hospital, the governor expressed optimism about the recovery of many of the injured, noting that most were in stable condition. He assured that the Plateau State Government would cover medical expenses for all those wounded in the incident. Governor Mutfwang also vowed that the state would support families of the deceased, including providing dignified burials and aid for dependents left behind. He said a suspect had been arrested in connection with the attack and promised that “all those involved in this heinous act will face the law. The governor applauded residents for maintaining peace and refraining from retaliation, even in the face of tragedy. He stressed that security is a collective responsibility and urged citizens to remain vigilant, report suspicious activity, and support ongoing security efforts. As part of further preventive measures, Mutfwang directed stricter enforcement of the ban on commercial motorcycle operations within the Jos Greater Master Plan area, with security guidelines to be issued by the relevant agencies.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with security agencies to restore calm, bring perpetrators to justice, and prevent any recurrence of such violent attacks.
