Oyo Police Arrest Giwa Sodiq After Fatal Youth Clash in Lalupon, Ibadan The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with a violent altercation among youths in the Asalu Community, Lalupon area of Ibadan, that left one person dead from injuries, police confirmed on Monday, March 16, 2026. According to preliminary investigations, community authorities informed the Iyana‑Offa Police Division after local security guards were alerted to a confrontation involving a group of youths while many residents were asleep. The injured individuals were rushed to Ojo Oluwa Hospital, Iyana‑Offa, for medical attention. One of the victims, Kehinde, also known locally as “Ogo Ojigbo,” later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, the police said.
Police operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer responded promptly to both the scene and the hospital. Photographs were taken for documentation, and one suspect, Giwa Sodiq, was arrested in connection with the incident. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital Morgue, Ring Road, Ibadan, where it will be preserved and subjected to autopsy. Commissioner of Police Femi Haruna commended the swift actions of the operatives in securing an arrest and reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order across Oyo State. He urged residents to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious or criminal activities. The commissioner also appealed to members of the public with credible information that could lead to the arrest of other suspects believed to have fled the scene to come forward and assist the police.
