Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening global partnerships and constructive international engagement, with the government highlighting the importance of collaboration to address shared challenges and promote sustainable development amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.
At a high-profile diplomatic reception hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs told members of the diplomatic community that Nigeria remains committed to principled, multilateral diplomacy and stronger global cooperation.
The event, attended by ambassadors, high commissioners and heads of international organisations, focused on renewing goodwill and enhancing partnerships with the international community.
Nigeria’s foreign policy for 2026 was outlined around three key pillars: strategic autonomy, regional stability, and responsible global partnership. The Minister emphasised Nigeria’s preference for dialogue over division and cooperation over confrontation, particularly given ongoing global uncertainty.

The government has launched region-wide initiatives, such as the Regional Partnership for Democracy (RPD) with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), designed to strengthen governance and democratic resilience across West Africa.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to peace, security, and shared prosperity when receiving diplomatic representatives, calling on them to deepen cooperation on trade, energy, agriculture, technology and other sectors.
Nigeria’s diplomatic outreach includes bilateral and multilateral engagement aimed at boosting economic development and regional integration, consistent with broader foreign policy goals.
Strengthening global partnerships is seen as key to advancing Nigeria’s economic, security, and development ambitions under the the administration’s strategic framework for national resurgence and inclusive growth. At a time of geopolitical shifts and global uncertainty, Nigeria insists on constructive diplomacy, positioning itself as a reliable partner in tackling shared challenges such as regional security, economic cooperation, democratic governance and sustainable development.
