GATEWAY Program To Give 340,000 Nigerian Youths Access To Global Online Jobs
GATEWAY Program to give 340,000 Nigerian youths access to global online jobs A major new initiative called the GATEWAY Program is set to equip 340,000 Nigerian youths with digital skills and opportunities to access global online freelance jobs, organisers said, as the nation seeks to leverage the booming international gig economy to tackle youth unemployment. The programme a five‑year partnership between Co‑creation HUB (CcHUB) and the Mastercard Foundation launched in January 2026 across ten states, aiming to prepare participants to compete for remote gigs in the global digital marketplace. Under GATEWAY, young Nigerians will be trained in four high‑demand creative digital disciplines: Digital Marketing, Graphic Design, UI/UX Design, and Video Production and Editing, each tailored for online job opportunities on global platforms.
- Growth Pathway for youths with some skills who are building portfolios and seeking freelance work, and
- Foundation Pathway for beginners learning core competencies to enter the online digital workforce.
Organisers said the initiative is designed to create pathways that allow Nigerian youths to earn in foreign currency by securing remote contracts with international clients, a shift away from the constrained domestic job market. The global freelance economy is projected to reach roughly $1.85 trillion by 2032, presenting significant opportunities for digital talent worldwide.
GATEWAY’s inclusive framework specifically targets groups often marginalised in the job market, including young women, Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), and displaced youth, aiming to bridge barriers to participation and economic inclusion. To ensure broad access, CcHUB and partners are equipping tech hubs and community centres in states including Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Kaduna, Kano, Abuja, Delta, Edo, Rivers, and Enugu with computers, high‑speed internet, and dedicated learning spaces so that lack of equipment does not hinder participation. Participants will also have the chance not only to earn certifications but to build portfolios, receive mentorship and connect with verified global clients, increasing their chances of sustainable online employment. The initiative is hailed by advocates as a timely response to Nigeria’s youth unemployment dilemma, where a large share of the population is under 30 but formal job creation lags behind demographic growth. By positioning Nigerian talent within the global digital economy, GATEWAY aims to create new income streams, foreign exchange earnings, and economic independence for participants. Registration for the programme is now open via the official portal at gateway.cchub.africa, offering young Nigerians the opportunity to pursue digital careers and compete globally.
