FG Schedules Emergency Meeting Over Planned Airfare Hike, Flight Suspension Threat The Federal Government has disclosed that a high-level emergency stakeholders’ meeting has been scheduled for April 22, 2026, aimed at reaching a prompt, practical, and sustainable resolution to the ongoing aviation crisis triggered by proposed airfare increases and threats of flight suspension by domestic airlines. The announcement followed rising tensions within Nigeria’s aviation industry after airline operators warned of possible shutdown of operations due to escalating operational costs, particularly the sharp surge in aviation fuel prices. According to government officials, the emergency meeting will bring together key stakeholders across the aviation value chain, including airline operators, regulators, fuel marketers, and relevant government agencies, to address the growing concerns threatening flight operations nationwide.

The Federal Government had earlier urged airline operators to exercise restraint regarding planned airfare hikes and reconsider any decision to suspend services, stressing that such actions could severely disrupt economic activities and passenger mobility across the country.
