The reward package was initially announced by President Tinubu on August 4, 2025, shortly after the team secured their historic win. Each player was promised a cash reward of $100,000, while members of the coaching and technical crew were to receive $50,000 each. In addition to the monetary rewards, the players and officials were also conferred with the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), alongside the allocation of residential apartments in Abuja. Officials stated that the fulfilment of the pledge demonstrates the government’s commitment to rewarding excellence and encouraging sports development in Nigeria. The presentation of the housing documents was described as a significant step in ensuring that promises made to athletes are kept without delay. D’Tigress won the 2025 AfroBasket title after defeating Mali 78–64 in the final, marking their fifth consecutive championship and seventh overall victory in the tournament The fulfilment of the pledge has been widely praised as a positive example of accountability in governance, particularly in the area of sports, where athletes have often faced delays in receiving promised rewards.
