What Was Approved
Under the 2026 intervention cycle, TETFund will disburse a total of ₦6.452 billion to beneficiary institutions across the country.
Each university will receive ₦2,525,932,228.02.
Each polytechnic will receive ₦1,871,059,920.53.

Funding Breakdown
Direct Disbursements: About 90.75 % of the funds will be released directly to institutions, including 50 % annual direct disbursement and 40.75 % special direct disbursement.
Designated Projects & Stabilization: A smaller share will support strategic projects and stabilization efforts.
Priorities and Focus Areas
TETFund’s 2026 interventions are designed to support:
Critical physical infrastructure development.
Academic programme enhancement and research innovation.
Strengthening ICT capacity, including expanded digital services and improved access to internet and research platforms.
Security infrastructure and finishing long-abandoned projects.
Establishment of Centers for Robotics, Coding & AI Machine Learning and Centre for Cybersecurity Studies in selected institutions.
Research, Innovation & New Initiatives
TETFund has introduced a new intervention line: the Nigerian Research and Education Network (NgREN), aiming to improve access to global academic resources.
The integration of the TERAS (Tertiary Education, Research, Applications and Services) platform into NgREN is expected to expand research collaboration and enhance academic outputs.
Several research laboratories and agricultural development projects are under construction, with multiple labs underway and modern greenhouses being introduced in select universities.
ICT and Digital Infrastructure
TETFund’s ICT roadmap includes expanded digital services, ICT Experience Centers, and subscription-based internet access, intended to bolster learning, research, and global connectivity.
Performance-Linked Disbursements
The Fund has warned that future allocations will depend on how effectively institutions deploy their current resources; those with unutilised funds may have their allocations withheld until existing ones are fully utilised.
Why It Matters
This significant investment aims to transform Nigeria’s tertiary education sector by improving infrastructure, promoting research excellence, enhancing technology adoption, and strengthening institutions’ capacity to meet global academic standards.
