Billionaire Chris Rokos to donate record £190m to University of Cambridge Billionaire hedge fund manager Chris Rokos is set to donate £190 million to the University of Cambridge, in what is being described as the largest single donation made to a British university in modern times. The landmark gift will fund the creation of a new institution, the Rokos School of Government, aimed at training future global leaders to tackle complex political and economic challenges. The donation will consist of an initial £130 million, with a further £60 million expected to follow, subject to matching contributions from the university.

University officials say the new school will focus on equipping students with the skills needed to navigate an increasingly complex global landscape, combining expertise from science, technology, economics, and the humanities.

The Rokos School of Government is expected to begin operating in temporary facilities later this year, before moving to a permanent site in Cambridge’s West Innovation District. Speaking about the donation, Rokos said his own life had been transformed by education and that he wanted to give back. He expressed hope that the new school would eventually play a significant role in shaping global leadership and policy. Cambridge’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Deborah Prentice, welcomed the contribution, saying it would help the university develop innovative approaches to leadership and policymaking in response to rapidly changing global challenges. Rokos, founder of Rokos Capital Management and one of the UK’s wealthiest individuals, is known for his success in global financial markets and his growing involvement in philanthropy, particularly in education. The donation surpasses previous major gifts to UK universities and highlights the increasing role of private philanthropy in higher education funding.
