Atiku Abubakar Rejects Rumours of Political Exit
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed claims that he has retired from active politics, describing the reports as false and part of a deliberate disinformation campaign. In a statement released through his media office, the former presidential candidate said reports circulating on social media suggesting he had “stepped aside and retired from active politics” were “entirely false and deliberately misleading Atiku clarified that he had not held any meeting at the national level with stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) where such a decision was allegedly made. According to the statement, his only recent political engagement was with ADC stakeholders in Adamawa State, not a nationwide consultation as claimed in the reports The media office emphasised that any decision of such magnitude would be formally communicated through official channels, not through rumours or unnamed sources.
It further alleged that those behind the claims were attempting to mislead the public and weaken opposition momentum.
The statement described the reports as part of a “coordinated disinformation campaign designed to create confusion” and distract from ongoing political developments Atiku urged his supporters and members of the ADC to disregard the rumours and remain focused on political mobilisation ahead of future elections. He reaffirmed his continued involvement in Nigeria’s political space, stressing that false narratives should not derail efforts aimed at national development and democratic engagement.
The development comes amid heightened political activity and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
