APC 2027 Ogun Aspirant Abayomi Hunye Rejects Rumours Of Party’s Pick, Calls Claims Baseless
APC 2027 Ogun Aspirant Abayomi Hunye Rejects Rumours of Party’s Pick, Calls Claims Baseless All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant Abayomi Hunye, the Managing Director of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), has dismissed circulating reports that leaders of the ruling party in the state have already selected a preferred candidate for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election. Hunye, speaking in Abeokuta on Wednesday, said the rumours are unfounded and have no legitimacy, emphasising that no individual has been “picked” as the party’s candidate without following the party’s consensus process. According to him, a genuine consensus candidate can only emerge when all party executives and leaders in Ogun State meet and jointly agree on who should represent the APC in the governorship contest. He stressed that such an endorsement cannot be valid unless it is the result of a broad, authorised party process. “I want to use this opportunity to clear the air that nobody has been picked from anywhere. And if there is anybody claiming as such, I think it is a rumour and I want to stand by that as a rumour,” Hunye said, urging party members and the public not to be misled. Hunye also criticised those spreading the claims, noting it was unacceptable for anyone to speak to the press about a supposed APC choice without the consent of the party’s leadership. In his remarks, the gubernatorial hopeful reiterated that the APC’s internal decision‑making must follow due party mechanisms and said that aspirants should be careful not to allow misinformation to cloud the nominating process. Additionally, Hunye appealed to party stakeholders in the Ogun Central and Ogun East Senatorial Districts to support the principle of political rotation, insisting that the Ogun West Senatorial District should be considered for the next governorship slot a region he said has been marginalised since the state’s creation in 1976.
