The governor made this known while announcing the creation of a new Ministry of Aviation and Airport Development aimed at strengthening the state’s growing aviation sector and consolidating recent milestones achieved in international air travel. According to Governor Eno, the establishment of the ministry represents a strategic step toward positioning Akwa Ibom as a major aviation hub in Nigeria and West Africa. The development follows the successful launch of the first international flight connecting Uyo to Accra, a move widely regarded as a significant breakthrough for regional connectivity and economic expansion.
Governor Eno described the achievement as a testament to deliberate investments made by his administration to expand infrastructure, improve aviation services, and stimulate economic activities within the state. He noted that improved air connectivity would boost tourism, trade, investment opportunities, and ease of travel for residents and businesses.
