FG Digitises Authentication, Evaluation Of Academic Credentials
The Federal Government has digitised the authentication and evaluation of academic credentials in Nigeria, introducing a fully automated system aimed at simplifying procedures, reducing processing time, and strengthening the credibility of certificate verification nationwide. The Federal Ministry of Education announced the development as part of ongoing efforts to modernise public service delivery and advance the Federal Government’s digital transformation agenda within the education sector.

According to the ministry, the newly introduced system automates all processes related to the authentication and evaluation of academic credentials, ensuring improved efficiency, transparency, and data integrity. With the implementation of the digital platform, all applications for authentication and evaluation will now be processed strictly online through the ministry’s official verification portal. Applicants seeking verification services are required to register on the portal and upload all relevant supporting documents electronically. The ministry also directed applicants to contact their respective institutions to ensure academic transcripts are forwarded directly from official institutional email addresses for verification and processing. Officials emphasised that physical visits to the Federal Ministry of Education for credential authentication are no longer necessary, as the entire process has been fully automated. The ministry explained that the reform aligns with broader government efforts to deploy technology-driven solutions that support evidence-based policymaking while improving public sector efficiency. It added that the transition to a digital verification platform is expected to simplify procedures, significantly reduce processing delays, and enhance confidence in Nigerian academic certificates locally and internationally. The initiative is also seen as a major step toward tackling certificate forgery and restoring trust in Nigeria’s academic qualification system.
