At Least 16 People Have Been Killed And Dozens More Injured
At least 16 people have been killed and dozens more injured after Russia launched a massive wave of drone and missile strikes across Ukraine overnight in what authorities described as the deadliest attack of 2026 so far. The assault hit multiple Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, Odesa, and Dnipro, with residential buildings, civilian infrastructure, and energy facilities among the targets.
Ukrainian officials said the strikes involved a large combination of drones and missiles, overwhelming air defence systems despite several intercepts. In Kyiv alone, emergency services reported extensive damage to high-rise buildings and infrastructure, with rescue operations continuing through the morning.
In Odesa, multiple fatalities were recorded after a residential building was struck, while Dnipro also suffered deaths and widespread destruction from the overnight bombardment.
Emergency responders described scenes of shattered buildings, burning vehicles, and civilians trapped under rubble as rescue teams worked to pull survivors from debris. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attacks, calling them deliberate strikes on civilians and urging stronger international action against Russia, including tougher sanctions and more military support.
Authorities warned that the casualty figure could rise as search and rescue operations continue across the affected regions.
The strikes come amid intensified fighting and increased use of long-range drones and missiles in recent weeks, further escalating the war and deepening humanitarian concerns.
